Spirits...
Cheveyo's golden eyes were wide as she scanned the carnage, her mind unable to comprehend the disaster before her.
Blood...there was so much of it. It was everywhere; On the trees, staining the grass, dotting the faces that looked up at her...
This...I don't understand... She didn't bother with keeping her thoughts private. Why would someone do this...?
She gently prodded a feline body with her paw, flipping it from it's side and onto it's back. The young Chief whimpered at the sight before her. A jaguar, with it's neck bent in the wrong direction entirely. Chey felt like she was going to retch. She couldn't keep her emotions back for once...she was unable to keep that mask in place or keep herself fully composed.
This wasn't just a group of murders... She looked over at Harrier. This was a massacre...an absolute massacre...

Harrier was too shocked to react much at first. He reverted into his human form, stumbling forward to one of the fallen wolves. A child... A mere child. One that could not have been older than ten years. His hands moved to perhaps take the fallen child in his arms, but he stopped mid-motion as he eyes fell on the sight of a pup who had been decapitated. His muscles trembled as his gaze turned to Chey. "How," he asked quietly, cold rage filling him. "How could you even accuse my people of doing this?" This horror! The scents swirled around him, making him feel so dizzy. Yina... How could this have happened to Yina?
Shifting back into his wolf form, he leaned back his head, a howl of grief echoing throughout the forest.

For once, the twins were at a loss of how to react. They took very few things seriously, living life as a joke- even on the way here, before they could have possibly comprehended the sight about to meet their eyes, they played around, making jokes and taking turns nipping at Baba's tail to see how long it would take before he would finally round on them. Even as they neared the ring of petrified trees that marked the beginning of their sacred land, they hung at the back of the group, Tuari still limping faintly, singing rather obnoxiously to keep themselves entertained on the long walk. Tuari had struck up the tune, to the annoyance of the wolves closest to him.
The ants go marching one by one,
Hurrah, hurrah, chimed in Indigo.
The ants go marching one by one,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
The ants go marching one by one-
-then Chey has to stop to suck her thumb-
Snickering childishly to themselves, they turned their snouts upward, prancing nearer to the front, both of them mentally belting- and they all go marching down, to the ground to-
No one needed to tell them to shut up; as soon as they surpassed the few warriors that had been blocking their view, they fell silent at once.
The air was dead still- not a breeze whistled past the pale trees. The twins were still several yards away from the carnage, but they could see it well enough; like a dark scar, the ground was stained, mangled bodies twisted and stiff. In numb silence the two padded forward, looking lost.
"How could you even accuse my people of doing this?" Harrier's voice was soft; Indigo flinched as his Alpha threw back his head and howled, agony twined in the call. His grey eyes glanced to Tuari, who was standing rigidly on the spot, his tail tucked close to his hind legs, looking both uneasy and miserable.
Do something, said a small voice in Indigo's head; gritting his teeth, he nosed at a discarded bag, smelling only the charcoal of the previous fire.
"Why'd they burn it?" Tuari had shifted; he was crouched beside one of the fallen, charred trees, drawing his finger over the blackened wood. "I-I can't smell anything but blood and...burned wood...I can see how the Ambassador thought we did this, it almost smells like us, doesn't it?"

Despite the Twins trying to nip at his tail, Baba was able to make the journey to Yina. The elder wasn't sure if the boys were mature for this expedition. As they reached the carnage, a pit started to form in the advisor's stomach. He swifted to his human form and walked over to the bodies. The smell of blood and smoke was in the air. He looked at the corpses, both canine and feline. 'Who in their minds would do this? What benefit could come from this blood?' There was no way a werewolf or a werecat could do this. It isn't in their nature to slaughter innocent worshippers then burn the forest. Tuari had an interesting thought, did the vandels who did this burn the forest to hide their scent, to blame it on them.

Amizade unconsciously pressed close to Chey, caught unawares by the whole scene. Ami heard the chieftess's question "If it was not us, and it was not them." She shot a look over at the group of Werewolves that had come with them "Than that only leaves two other races that could have done this." Amizade paused allowing Chey to possibly process what she was implying "I do not believe that the humans have the bravery nor the strength to do such a thing. Who does that leave?" Ami did not want to anger her superior so she blocked her mind for a moment and answered her own question "Vampires." A hiss ripped through her teeth involuntarily, at the thought that those blood sucking filth would do such a thing.

Cheveyo, ignoring the woman that was crowding beside her, shifted into her human form, kneeling by the corpse before her. She timidly reached out and touched the jaguar, her fingers brushing it's fur.
At Harrier's words, her eyes clamped shut, and she said nothing. Why had she accused them of such things? She had...she has just been so angry...and so grieved.
Eyes opening, she turned to Tuari and listened to what he had to say, her hand now back at her side. She rose and walked over to him, inspecting the tree, as well. Ash covered her fingertips as she brushed them against the wood. "Obviously to hide their scent..." She mumbled, more to herself than to the werewolf beside her.
She then spun about to look at Amizade. "Interesting thought, Amizade. But we can't jump to conclusions like that...we can't say anything for certain."

Just what was going on? Harrier had to wonder. These numbers didn't make sense. Thirty werecats... All these elders and children... This wouldn't have been a werecat attack. Even they had better warriors to send than children. He shifted back into human form, taking the headless pup into his arms. He would have had a long life ahead of him... "This could not have been done by a werecat. His head was..." The words nearly caught in his throat. "Torn off." He could tell quite clearly by the way that the wound wasn't clean. But... How could it not be the werecats? That didn't make sense either. He raised his eyes to the sky, cradling the pup in his arms before his gaze dropped as he searched for the head nearby. "I... Don't understand." The other werecat spoke of vampires, but.... How? How could they have tainted Yina? Could they really have gotten that far?

Standing a few feet from his Alpha, Tuari stood, dusting the soot off his hands, averting his gaze from where Harrier cradled the headless pup. Revulsion bubbled in his throat, his stomach churning at the entire scene, the dead children, the mutilated bodies- unable to control himself, he sprinted from the site of immediate carnage and was sick behind one of the still-standing trees.
His brother didn't feel much better. He quietly pondered what the Werecats had said, and the blind anger was a grateful relief from the agony, and so he clung to that.
"Why shouldn't we jump to conclusions?" Indigo said loudly, shifting back to Human so his voice would carry, defying the awful silence, "they're scum- they're demons, abominations- they're not even alive, they would not value life, their existence depends on murder." He could hear himself babbling, raging senselessly, the words not making it clearly from his mind to his mouth.
"That's why we're here, isn't it?" he turned to them all, spreading his arms, "to kill them- why would we hesitate? Maybe they've tried to get a jump on us!"

Vampires? How on earth did such unholy creatures walk so deep into such sacred lands? It seemed too impossible, yet it seemed like the only reasonable answer in Baba's mind. While it cleared the guilt of both races, the idea that those leeches infintrate into their lands undetected and can cause much damage was a chilling thought. Were they getting more sohipicated? Then again, this seemed like a rush of judgement. "If they can do this on our lands, there's no telling what they are truely capible of. If this was the work of the vampires, we have truely underestimated them." It's been a long time since vampires did ever step foot in these forests.

She looked over at Baba and Indigo, the WereCat agreed with both. Ami shifted back to human form and walked over so that she was kind of in between baba and Indigo "I agree with you Indigo." She sighed "But I also agree with Baba. If the vampires have infultrated these holy lands, than we have greatly underestimated them and they should be destroyed." Ami looked around at the carnage "The question is how do we approach this."

Cheveyo looked over at Harrier when he spoke once more, and immediately clamped both of her hands over her mouth at the sight. "Harrier..." She took a few steps towards him, eyes wide. She didn't know what to say to him...what could one say in a time like this?
Hands lowering, she whirled to meet Indigo, trying to ignore the sound of the other twin retching not far off. "We can't jump to conclusions without the facts." She answered, gesturing to the scene around them. "We can't just say the vampires," The word was like poison, "did it because we don't want to believe either of our sides committed this crime. As much as I want to believe it was them, we can't be certain of anything right now."
And then Baba spoke. Chey listened to his words, then sighed. "You are right, Advisor Baakir. But, as I said, we have to keep looking around. It could be the bloodsuckers, yes, but..." As much as she didn't want to accept the fact that it could have been her own people who did this, it was a definite possibility.
Her glance then traveled to Amizade, but she said nothing. She had already given out her opinion.
Dene, one of the loyalists who had been chosen to come to Yina, finally stated his opinion. "Chieftess Kitchi is right. While it could have been the vampires, it could have also been some rogues." His eyes locked on Harrier. "Alpha Konvar, you state that a werecat could not have done this due to the fact that that pup was decapitated by hand. Why do you say such a thing? Are you saying a rogue werecat would not be able to muster the strength to pull a werewolf's head off? Or are you questioning morals? As much as I do not want to believe that my people could have done this, it's possible."
Chey bit her lip. It was a horrible thing to consider...but it was something they had to consider.

Harrier looked over at the werecat who spoke. "I do not doubt that the werecats would hesitate to do such a thing." But were the werecats strong enough? They certainly weren't stronger than a werewolf! But they were stronger than a child... "So then we cannot discount the fact that rogues have done this. I'll have to make sure that Kahjit strengthens the patrols around our borders. Any rogues that we find should be killed on sight."
There was a growing chorus of voices accusing the vampires, but Harrier wasn't so sure. "What proof is there that the vampires have enough organization to do this? We have no proof of this. If we must we will send a group to the mountains and-" His words suddenly trailed off there as he realized that among this mess and Yeszlin going missing... He never sent a part to the mountains with the humans. Even if he sent them right this instant, they would never make it in time.
Well... That was a drag.

"We don't need proof!" Keeping his distance from the carnage, Tuari wiped a hand along his mouth, keeping his eyes carefully averted. "We're supposed to kill any Vampires we see, right? Like you said, Harrier," he gestured feebly with one hand, "if we know they're in the mountains, then we should eliminate them first, see how many there are. Then we can focus on whatever happened here. It may have been their fault."
He glanced over as Indigo hurled a large chunk of a fallen, singed branch- it spun a few feet and shattered against the trunk of a remaining tree that was just barely upright. His brother's face was so uncharacteristically contorted in anger that he was, for a brief glimpse, nearly unrecognizable- a vengeful fire lingered behind his grey eyes, a far difference from his usual impish spark.
"We have to do something!" he roared, "I won't- we can't just sit here! Words mean nothing in this light."
He rounded on the Werecat Alpha. "You claim your people didn't do this. I'm not sure I believe you; but I can't see why you would do such a thing, or how thirty Werecats could fall to four wolves. A rogue group, perhaps- this I can understand. But we must reach a conclusion."
"I vote we go to the Mountains," Tuari interjected suddenly. "I agree with Harrier." Not that your vote counts, he thought resentfully.

Baba wondered if the vampire theory was accurate. It was quite illogical and dishonorable to the highest degree for werewolves and werecats to fight on holy ground. Yet, when he examined some of the wounds, it looked as if wolf did it. It was true that the vampires were their mortal enemy, but are they jumping the gun with this idea. Were they, including him, so desperate about the event that they are making an easy enemy a scapegoat? They needed to investigate this further.
Suddenly, another thought popped in his head. The werecreatures were suppose to meet the humans to investigate the mountain. It seems this whole affair has distracted the two races from meeting their quota. Did the humans go ahead with the mission without their support or withdrew? "Maybe we should head to Cados. We need a neutral party, just to ensure the investigation is handled fairly. We're also going to need to say sorry for not showing." Oh, he knew the humans weren't going to be too please.
