Travis was glad to hear that Lysand was willing to give him a horse. He checked the sturdy horse; she seemed to check out well. He then turned towards Banez and Lysand. "I'm sorry it seems I'm leaving in such a hurry, but the Captain understands. Is there anything else you need before I depart?"

Thankfully Lysand was willing to let Travis borrow his horse. It looked like the advisor was a more generous man than Banez realized, but a crisis did bring people to work together. The captain shook his head at Travis' question. Oh, they needed a lot, but the ranger would be hard pressed to meet all those demands by himself. "Besides prayers, we'll be fine now, I hope. Godspeed, Travis," Banez saluted to the ranger.

Lysand dipped his head to the ranger. "No, I would not require anything else from you." He watched the ranger for a moment before adding, "May God deliver you to your destination safely." He turned his attention back to Banez, suddenly feeling weary. He was going to need his report and then he was going to have to get a written copy of his report and then he would need to add that to the growing pile of reports and documents he had. He raised a hand to his eyes, rubbing them tiredly for a moment. He wished that he had gotten more than an hour of sleep last night. "Banez, I am going to have to take your report. I might as well have you dictate it to me." He really didn't want to go and try to find a scribe at the moment. He raised a hand to touch his shoulder, incidentally the one Banez's hand was on. "We may need to stop at the infirmary first." He added the last part reluctantly; he didn't want to have to explain to Banez why he needed a dressing changed. For two reasons; one, he didn't want to tell the captain how he got it, and two, he didn't want to explain that he continually reopens it it practicing his rapier.

Seeing that his work was done, Travis mounted on his horse. He returned a salute back at Banez and Lysand and replied, "And may God watch over you and protect you from whatever danger that lies ahead for you." Just like that, the ranger rode off from the castle, in high hopes of completing his next journey.

Banez watched Travis ride out of sight before he turned back to Lysand, frowning when the advisor rubbed his eyes. Right, he had said he had trouble sleeping without.... Well, Banez still wasn't sure what to think of what had happened before he left to Tiaelde. "The infirmary would be a good place to visit..." Under his sleeve, his shield arm was still discolored yellow from the bruises on it, and the progress of his back wound should be checked by a professional. But Lysand had to have a reason for going to the infirmary, and he leaned forward a bit, "Have you been feeling alright?"

Lysand was quiet a moment as he glanced away from Banez. "I... I reopened my old wounds." He began heading toward the infirmary, focusing on their path, weighing things in his mind. Oh, he couldn't hide it from the guard captain, could he? He would read the report eventually... "I was assaulted by..." He swallowed. "A vampire." He raised his hand, pressing it to his shoulder. "I haven't had much time to rest it with all that's been going on, so..."

Banez' eyes widened. And Lysand was still standing. "What happened??" he asked. "How did a vampire get into the castle??" This wasn't good! They had to patch up that security before anything like that happened again! "Can't you have another advisor do some of the work? You can't work yourself like this, especially at this time."

"Apparently he just walked right in," Lysand replied quietly. When Banez asked about other advisors he shook his head slowly. "I can't, Banez. Not at a time like this... The kingdom it could-" the word could not come to his throat. Fall. The kingdom could fall. "I have to do something. I have to. I didn't rip open my shoulder again doing work anyway..." They had arrived at the infirmary at this point, and a couple of healers looked up at them, stopping their work for a moment.

Banez would just have to look at the reports of this vampire, then. Not only Lysand's well-being was at stake, but Lorin's as well. It didn't take a creative mind to think of what the vampires would do to the royal bloodline if they had entered the castle. It looked like his promise to protect the royal family at the cost of his own life was going to be seriously tested. Lysand didn't need to finish the sentence about the kingdom. The captain just wished that the advisor didn't take so much on himself when he wasn't well. He stepped into the infirmary and carefully removed his shirt. "I need my arm looked at, and these bandages changed." Considering the battle, he could have been worse off physically....
But he had set up many shields mentally to keep himself from grieving to death. Over a hundred of his men had to have died in the shadow of the mountain, but Banez couldn't mourn for them. Not now.

"Yes, captain." One of the healers began to get to work looking at Banez's arm, waving a hand for one of the attendants to bring over fresh linen bandages.
Lysand removed his doublet before taking off the white shirt underneath to expose his shoulder. The bandage was only slightly specked with red- when he reopened it, he must not have done it too badly. "I'll need to be more careful in the future." He shifted as a healer began unwrapping the bandage. "I've been training, to try to make myself... less of an easy target."

Simon was already in the infirmary (not that he didn't like a nice reunion, but his leg was killing him), getting his calf checked out and his bandages removed. Much to his displeasure, it had gotten infected on the caravan ride over, which would explain his fatigue. They would have to reopen the wound and drain it.
Banez winced as the healer raised his arm to get a better look at it. "Practicing the rapier?" he asked Lysand. "Don't kill yourself before the battle even begins, Lysand. And remember when I told you that your goal in any battle is take any good opportunity to run."

"But what good will that do?" Lysand asked quietly. "I cannot simply run. I cannot standby, completely helpless while the castle falls! I'm sick of being helpless Banez. I just can't do it anymore!" He was quiet as the healer washed out his wound and began to rewrap it. "Besides, if they get far enough into the castle where I am... Where am I to run?"

Banez frowned, recalling the princes' words about feeling useless. But what could he tell them? They weren't warriors, and even his commanders wouldn't fare well against the vampires. They had already taken Nathan and Trevor from him; he wasn't about to risk Lysand and Lorin, too. "You'll use one of the secret passageways and get out through there. I can't let you fight them. They're absolutely ruthless, Lysand." He looked away. "I fought what I can only assume is the head of their army. And I knew, just from looking in his eyes, that I wouldn't live once I had engaged him." Thank God Travis had been there.

Lysand stared at him with an unreadable expression on his face, which soon disappeared into nothingness as he swallowed his words. What then? He was going to ask, but knew better not to. Was he to just run about the countryside, wondering if his next day was going to be his last. "They... They won't get this far, will they?"

Banez was still looking away. "I think... we should plan for the worst, but hope for the best," he said quietly.
