Goodness, Brenthor couldn't have gotten this far, not with his current shape.
Maybe she should just stop now. She did her job...partly...and now...now could be time to move on to new horizons! She could even leave her past behind and start a new life, and she could live it for good and serve in the military! Avi would make a new name for herself and do loads of community service!....
I think I'll just stick with Brenthor...
If Brenthor even wanted to stick with her any longer, that is. She made a pretty bad mistake, and he'd probably lecture her and try to hit her but get too tired and stop. He might even fire her and leave her in the woods! Maybe she should turn back...
Too late, found him...I think.
She saw a dark blob on a fallen tree not too far away from where she was, so she slowly approached it to make sure it was Brenthor. After walking a little she could make out some clothing and the back of a head, so she walked up behind him and poked him with her dagger. Might as well have some fun before Brenthor exploded on her.

Banez was the worst escort ever. What was it that he even said before running off? Something about an angel? Was the man insane? He'd have stern words for the man when he returned. When they got back to Cados, and he took over as head advisor, he'd have to ask Lorin to fire him. As he was thinking, something suddenly poked him in the back.
In an instant, Brenthor's rapier was out, and he was turned around, face passive as it hid his true surprise. "Who dares-" He trailed off at the sight of her. "... Oh, it's you." He didn't lower his rapier for a few moments, but at last it returned to his sheath. A grin spread its way across his face. "So it's done then? Lysand is dead?"

Avi tried to hold back a laugh when Brenthor stood up with his rapier and...well, she guessed he was trying to look and sound threatening, but the sight of his fat jiggling when he jumped gave off the opposite affect. Only a chuckle escaped her mouth, but when she tried to silence herself, she only laughed again. Fortunately, she stopped when he asked about Lysand.
"Well, um...he should be..."

Brenthor took a deep breath, trying to swallow a feeling that was welling up inside of him. "What do you mean should be?" His face darkened. He didn't like the sound of 'should' be. It made him rather wary. She couldn't have screwed it up, could she? "You killed him, right?"

Avi took a breath and held it at the same moment that Brenthor took a breath. Fortunately, he didn't explode on her, but he was just a a bottle of champagne being shaken. He would pop soon.
"Well...I almost killed him..."
Avi paused for a moment to try and think of a better way to explain the failed attempt.
"I mean, I hurt him terribly, to where he thought he was going to die, and even I did, and then I bound and gagged him. I mean, he was really bleeding out. If he's not dead, he's definitely got some bad scars that are going to take a while to heal..."
Maybe that would be good enough for him...

"... He... He was still ALIVE?" Brenthor stared at her in absolute rage. "You let him LIVE?" He brought his hand back, smacking her across the face. "You IDIOT! You absolute idiot! SCARS? You think SCARS are good enough for me? Just WHY? Don't you realize WHAT you've done?" He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. "Do you realize what perild you've pt the kingdom in? This was our chance!"

Avi jumped back a little when Brenthor burst. She knew that it was bound to happen after she let him know that she didn't finish Lysand, but it was quite a volume change, nonetheless. She wasn't necessarily prepared for the slap, though. Her first instinct was to slap him back, but she held herself and just looked at him. She could take him in a fight if she needed to, but he hired her to kill someone, and she didn't fully complete the job.
"I understand, Brenthor, and I regret not fully taking my chance." Avi thought for a moment and looked back at Brenthor. "I told you that I'm not an assassin! I mean, I tried. That was the first time that I've ever been asked to take someone's life! It's much harder than it looks, no matter what terrible crimes they've committed! Well, no matter what terrible crimes they were about to commit, in Lysand's case. Maybe there's still time," she said in a questioning manner.

Brenthor lowered his hand, glowering unhappily. He forced himself to take a breath, then another. "Still time..." His hands abruptly clasped behind his back. "Yes perhaps there is still time... As long as there were no trails left behind to lead this back to you or I. Perhaps this could even be turned in my favor somehow." He pursed his lips. thinking. "Perhaps this has shaken him enough to allow me to convince our beloved prince that he is unfit for the job." His eyes narrowed for a moment as he thought. "If we could make him jump at shadows, and at every small noise he heard... Perhaps we could finally crack that mind of his."

She smiled when Brenthor seemed to consider that there was more time, but the smile ended abruptly when he mentioned trails left behind. Avi accidentally left behind the biggest trail she could. She gave Lysand the name of her boss. Of course, it was a mistake, but she did it nonetheless. Maybe she could just not tell Brenthor...
Avi realized she was caught up in her thoughts again, so she went back to listening to Brenthor, but he had finished speaking. It really didn't matter though, because that one sentence was all that mattered. If she told him, she'd surely be hit 100 times harder than the first, but if she didn't tell him...
Well, he wouldn't hit her!...right?
Not at that moment...maybe she could just not tell him and then try to fix things! How could she fix things, though? She already gave Lysand the name "Brenthor," and she didn't know anyone else in the world named Brenthor; moreover, he was the ambassador, so Lysand was bound to have some kind of suspicion about him...
If Avi didn't tell him, then she could get them both killed and have Lysand finish off the Prince! She had to give up the immediate gratification for the good of the kingdom...or at least for the good of her life.
Well, here goes...
"Umm...Brenthor...there's just one little problem with what you just said..." Avi looked around for a moment and shuffled uncomfortably. "Well, you see...it was in the heat of the moment, when all the adrenaline was pumping through my veins, and all the anger was flowing through me, and...um...well...I said something...something that involved the name...Brenthor..."

"You... WHAT?" Brenthor's blood ran cold for a brief moment before it began to boil. "YOU FOOL! YOU BLOODY FOOL!" He brought his hand back before ripping it toward her face to smack her as hard as he possibly could. "You TOLD him? YOU TOLD HIM I WANTED HIM DEAD! He KNOWS it was me! How could... How could you possibly BE any stupider? What the HELL am I supposed to do now? If I had known you were so UTTERLY inept then I'd- I'd!" He grit his teeth, trying not to grind them. He was shaking in utter rage, and it took all his will power not to draw his rapier. "The moment I walk into the capital, do you know what he'll do to me? I'll be lucky if I get a trial instead of him sicking his lapdog Gladpath on me." What the hell was he supposed to do now? He needed to think!
