"Elias! Where have you gone off to?"
"Over here, Chevo!"
Cheveyo chuckled. "I've told you to call me Chey!"
"But Chevo sounds better..." A gentle voice whined from behind a tree.
"And why is that?" Chey asked, stalking over to the petrified tree in an attempt to surprise the young arctic fox behind it.
"Because it's more like your real name! Che-veh-oh. Che-voh." Elias enunciated, still not noticing the approaching leopard.
"Oh, does it now?" Chey smiled devilishly as she readied her attack.
"Ye-AAAAH!" The boy's declaration was cut off by the elder female's pounce. Elias giggled like a madman as the two rolled about before falling into the sparkling pool that was the heart of Yina.
Chey shook her head, trying to rid herself of that memory. It had happened two years ago, and it was one of the sweetest moments Chey had ever shared with her deceased student. The two had always gotten along well, but that singular moment was engraved into her mind as one of the happier times in her life.
She sighed and relaxed herself, letting the cool waters of Yina soothe her.
That was then. This is now. She reminded herself. Things have changed...not necessarily for the better...but changed.

The air was still, the trees silent. Paws struck the ground silently, as he had little want to disturb the peace of the forest around him. He stopped and raised his head for a moment, white ears swiveling.
He was not alone.
The air stank of werecat. A small growl formed in his throat, but he forced himself to not bear his fangs. He moved forward, stopping at the edge of the pool and just staring straight ahead at the werecat. His haunches rose automatically as he glared at her. A werecat's presence was almost heresy at this place! Or at least, that's how he saw it. However, this was a place of peace. He could do nothing about it now...

A horse’s hooves trampled the ground rhythmically, while the knight on its back thought just enough to swerve the mount out of the way of oncoming trees. He had been traveling with Brenthor, still suffering as the ambassador would have it, before he had seen a glimpse of light through the trees. He wasn’t sure if Brenthor heard the “HOLDONJUSTSAWANANGEL” that left his mouth, but Banez couldn’t waste the time trying to explain if he was so close to finding the Angel Haven.
He rode his mount until the trees began to look petrified, and the sounds of the forest became exceptionally quiet, aside from the loud shifting of earth beneath the horse. After what may have been a quarter of an hour of riding, they finally slowed, while Banez glanced around with a furrowed brow and a worried gaze. But he had SEEN it. He had!
Instead of going back, he pressed the palomino into a walk, keeping his eyes peeled. Where did it go? He broke through the trees and shrubbery, finding a pool of clear water, and a woman in it. Oh... He glanced away briefly, more out of embarrassment then respect. "Ah.... hello. ...Have you seen any angels around?"

The stench assaulted her senses quite suddenly.
Chey's head snapped up, brown eyes locking with Harrier's. When she realized whom she was dealing with, she frowned. The Werewolf Alpha was definitely not someone she wanted to have to see today, let alone talk to. If a beast like that could even have a proper conversation...
"Alpha Konvar." She greeted, her voice bored and uninterested. She drew patterns on the surface of the water with her finger absent-mindly as she regarded the werewolf lazily. "What brings you to Yina, hmm?"
She would have continued if not for a third arrival. Her gaze transfered to Banez, who she vaguely recognized. She didn't normally try and remember humans' names, let along their standings, but this one...he looked rather familiar. Maybe she had seen him in Thrunalhin...? Oh, no time for that now...he was asking about angels or something...right?
"No, sorry. Only a puppy that's wandered a little too far from home." She replied smoothly, casting an amused glance at Harrier.

Harrier shifted forms straightening when he became his human-like self. He raised his chin, speaking quite clearly. "My business is my own, werecat. I have no need to tell you." He was just going for a walk really... Bah, annoying werecat!
He turned his head at the sound of a human's voice. "Angels? Why do you speak of such nonsense? You sound as intelligent as a werecat with such foolish ideas." He studied him a moment more before speaking. "It is not often that a human comes to Yina. I should hope you have real business here."

Uh oh. He seemed to have run into something. The palomino shook itself slightly and retreated back a step before the captain steadied her. Well, if he had to guess by mannerisms, the woman was a werecat and the male was a werewolf, especially when their words seemed to address each other. Banez did his best to not narrow his eyes at Harrier, but he did end up looking indignant. "It is not nonsense! I saw one."
Of course they wouldn't understand, though. No one understood, except Lysand and the knight he had squired.... But when the werewolf asked of his business, Banez' brows raised before he checked over his shoulder. Oh, whoops. He had ditched Brenthor.... He looked back to the two wereanimals. "I'm part of an effort to speak to the werewolf alpha... It concerns eradicating a significant number of vampires."

Chey laughed bitterly at Harrier's response. "Do you not remember who I am, dear Harry?" She was enjoying this a little too much. "I am Cheveyo Kitchi, Chief of the Werecats. It takes a small mind to forget my face." She flashed him a wry smile before returning her attention to Banez.
"Oh, you're looking for the muts' leader? Right there, dear." She gestured to Harrier. "Though, I doubt he and his little flock would be much help."
She then proceeded to shift into her feline form, her eyes becoming a dark golden color. Maybe it's this beautiful face you remember, hmm, Harry? She projected at the Alpha, climbing out of the pool and shaking her small form in an effort to dry herself.
Chey returned to her human form, straightened, and wrung out her long brown locks. "We've both already introduced ourselves. Your turn." She told Banez, releasing her hair.

Harrier abruptly shifted to his wolf form to bear his teeth and snarl at the werecat chief. The face that makes me ill to look at, you mean! he projected back. His haunches rose and his growling increased before his gaze shifted to the human again. He took in a deep breath, trying to find that familiar scent.... It wasn't there.
He shifted back, looking toward Banez. "And I am Harrier Konvar. Call me Harry and I will rip out your throat." His gaze turned to Chey at that point. "You can't hide in Yina forever after all." He turned his attention back to the guard captain. "Where's the large one?"

Banez' horse raised up onto its hind legs, sounding out a loud whinny when the chief and alpha shifted into their animal forms. "Woah!" Banez leaned forward and gripped the reins and generally did everything in his power to keep him on the saddle. Finally, his horse settled down on all fours, and its rider patted its neck and murmured calming phrases. With that over with, Banez quickly dismounted, before that whole fiasco could be avoided again.
"I'm Banez Gladpath, the Royal Gard Captain," he bowed. What, Harry? He glanced from Chey to Harrier with a blank expression, which quickly broke into a grin when Chey referenced what Banez could only assume was Brenthor. "Haha! Oh, the ambassador..." Hm, where was he, anyway? "He got lost."

"Aww, you wouldn't do that to a poor wittle kitty, would you, Harry?" Chey asked, pouting theatrically. This was way, way too fun. She knew she was probably screwing herself over, but for once, she couldn't care less.
"Glad to meet you, Captain Gladpath." Chey said sweetly, now running her fingers through her tangled, wet hair. "Ah, Ambassador....uh...Brenthor, I believe? Yes, Ambassador Talei spoke of him just a few days ago...I've heard he's a chubby little man."
( My muse is gone tonight. I apologize D: )

"All too easily," Harrier retorted. "I will not tolerate the evils of your race this day." His eyes narrowed at her before flicking to the human. "... Some escort you are, if you lost him." He turned his back entirely from the werecat. "Now you spoke of the vampires, I believe? What brings Brenthor to my territory?"

As annoying as she must have sounded to the alpha, Banez was certainly liking Chey more than Harrier. "Heh... he could break a full barrel just by sitting on it," he said to the werecat. "I figure that he'd better learn to be polite to your wolves so that he won't be killed," Banez said to Harrier. "Or are your wolves undisciplined enough that they'll kill any official that rides in?" And perhaps the ambassador should have been kinder to him on the way here! "We at the castle heard..." he glanced to Chey briefly, "that a group of vampires might be hiding in the mountains by Tiaelde. They are killing the people, and there are little corpses in the town's graveyard..."

Chey threw her head back and laughed. "The 'evils of my race'? Oh, you wound me, Harry." She clutched her chest with both hands, her bangles clinking against each other in a random pattern.
Still holding her chest, Chey looked over at Banez. "Oh, they'd attack a small child if it wandered into their territory. They're just bloodthirsty mongrels, after all." She lowered her hands and was glad for the pool separating the two, lest Harrier end up exploding. But that'd probably be fun to watch... She admitted to herself with a ghost of a smile.
"Vampires? Yes, I believe Ambassador Talei mentioned some sort of plan being formed to deal with the threat over there, but for the life of me, I cannot recall all of the details. Mind reminding me, as well as enlightening poor Harry over there?"

Harrier took to ignoring Chey completely. Since he couldn't rip her head off while in Yina, he'd have to block her out. He had to stop himself from shifting, even though he wanted nothing more than to dig his paws into the ground. His eyes narrowed at Banez. "You insult us, Captain." He looked away, glaring into the trees. Bah! Brenthor was more polite than this whelp! Next time the humans wanted to deal with them they had better send a real ambassador and not do it while there was a werecat to get on his nerves! "And I find it hard to believe that you would just leave your ambassador behind! Have you no sense of duty?" The concept of it seemed shocking to him, as he had no idea of Brenthor's true nature toward his allies.
As Gladpath spoke of the vampires, he nodded. "So you desire the werewolves' help to sniff them out, correct?"
