Lumi had a good point. What were people going to do? Malcolm frowned and stared into his mug. If all the people left, then the vampires might have to follow their prey, and so might start another city-takeover. Not very fun. Then again, if everyone stayed and fought, that was another battle. “I guess I don’t know,” he admitted. “Something to think about.”
Poor Lysand had even more to think about. Well, too bad for him. Solving existential crises wasn’t Malcolm’s forte. He just hoped that eventually someone would need a good ol’ fashioned advising and give Lysand something to do.

"I don't think we have much time to think about it," Lumi said to Malcom. How long would it take the vampires to organize themselves and take over the surrounding cities? If they waited too long, any uprising would be too scattered to take effect. She glanced at Lysand. His pain was understandable, but there was only so much to say to comfort him. "Maybe you're weak, but so what? The king didn't keep you around for that. You have a mind, don't you? Can't you... I don't know... persuade people to fight back and tell them what to do?" she asked.

"The army of Cados couldn't fight off those monsters. There's no way a bunch of rabble would be able to. They're not were-" Lysand sat back, eyes narrowing. "We can't fight. So we'll leave. But we won't just leave anywhere. We'll ask the werecreatures to take us in. After all, even a vampire army wouldn't just march into Naulus and Feryn." He raised a finger. "I'd negotiate a deal with them. Oh sure we'd be refugees, but better refugees than fattened calves for the vampires to slaughter. But if we cut of the vampire's food supply, then..." He shook a head. "And there may be the possibility that they'd be able to raise their own army of werecreatures to help us take Cados back. Although, I can't say they're very reliable at this point. After all, they did abandon us at the mountains..."

Well, they didn’t have much time to think. Malcolm, on the other hand, could think as much as he liked. Best keep that to oneself, though.
Nevertheless, Lysand had a point. “Well, there’s that advising skill you got your job for,” Malcolm chuckled. The weres...Had they reconvened yet? Damn, another plan to consider. He’d leave that to the higher-ups, whenever he went back to Cados. Wars were too complicated to think through. “Do you happen to know exactly how trustworthy they may be? Was the desertion a one-time mix-up or are there still issues?”

"You figure if werewolves and werecats stopped being a bunch of jackasses and formed an alliance, we could actually fight the vampires?" Lumi asked. "I mean, if the vampires keep their hold on Cados, the werepeople will have to treat them as equals, and that basically goes against the reason of their existence." And it goes against the will of the gods that gave them their power. She found it kind of funny that she wasn't including herself with her people, but... she never really felt a strong connection with them anyway. She looked at Lysand when Malcom posed his question. She had never been well in the loop with that sort of thing.

"I have no idea," Lysand admitted to Malcom. "I wasn't able to speak to the wereanimals myself. Ambassador Brenthor's reports were... shoddy at best. I'm assuming that his talks with them didn't go well." Brenthor... Was he dead? What had happened to him through all this? He felt a mix of feelings about that...
Lysand's head was immediately cleared when Lumi spouted the word 'equals.' "Equals? Equals! Hah, don't make me laugh! Those leeches could never be considered equals. Their very existence depends on the lives of humans. They're beneath us. Without us they wouldn't be able to survive." His eyes narrowed a moment before he glanced away. "There's still outposts of soldiers. A force of humans, and both races of wereanimals should be enough to drive them off... Assuming it could be pulled off."

Well, the humans wouldn’t be teaming up with a werecreature army too soon, at least. Malcolm decided not to say anything about the ‘equals’ topic, mostly because he thought humans on the lower rung of the food-chain couldn’t be considered the better race. This wasn’t the right company for that argument.
“Outposts are better than nothing,” Malcolm said, nodding. “Fighting back is worth trying, at least. Do you think people would go along with it?”

Lumi arched a brow, wondering if the advisor had actually listened to what she had said. "Laugh all you want, but if we don't rally some people quickly, that's what's going to happen." She shrugged to Malcom, "I hope so. I don't see why they wouldn't, though. It's either fight or wait around until the vampires decide to drain you anyway."

"I could convince them to go along with it," Lysand replied. "I've been able to convince people to do crazier things after all." Having a silver tongue did have its uses, it seemed. As it so happened, the advisor hadn't really listened to what Lumi had said previously, the statement about equals having set him off before he could comprehend everything else. He needed to put the cap back onto his emotions, he realized. He shook his head after a moment. "They'll have to see that there's no choice but to fight."

“I don’t know if those are the only choices,” Malcolm mused, watching Lumi. “I thought you’d mentioned leaving the continent, once. And I’m sure there are some people who’d rather run than fight.” He shrugged. “But I guess that’s a bad way of looking at it. How soon were you planning on spreading the plan?”

"Right, right, I did. But that's only an option until the vampires take control of the ports," Lumi said to Malcom. "And then there's the desert territory, but I'm sure that's a good place to run if you're planning to get yourself killed, so you might as well fight anyway." At the bartender's question, she shook her head, "Dunno... I guess soon, before more cities are toppled." There was a lot to do, but she just wanted to sit and wallow in pity until at least the morning.

((So remember that one time Saber forgot to post? Yeah, that... ))
Lysand sat back in his chair. "I'll need a night. I need to plan exactly how this should go." He sank the top row of his teeth into the bottom of his lip for a moment. "I'll need to gather more people together. There will be a lot of work to be done. I'll need messengers first of all. And then I'll need a way to arm people." His fingers tapped the table. "It's a lot to consider, and I'm not in the best shape for considering."
