Arzen was quiet for a long while, pulling his knees to his chest and staring off, the captain's mocking tone echoing through his head as he thought. Eventually he spoke. "Eve was tempted by the devil and took the fruit. Adam was tempted by Eve and also took the fruit. Mankind's existence is based off of trying to overcome the sin of temptation- something few men have accomplished. Perhaps God wishes for the vampires to overcome the sin of murder. Perhaps when Men stop giving into temptation, the vampires will stop murdering."

"Temptation isn't a sin," Banez remarked, although he understood Arzen's point. Whyyy? Why did Adam and Eve have to take the stupid fruit from the tree? "What's that supposed to mean?" he asked when Arzen finished his musings. "You'd be willing to risk everyone's lives for that prediction? Because that's what I have to do, all the time, and people will resent me if I put faith in the enemy."

"But acting on temptation is," Arzen replied. When Banez started accusing him of risking everyone's lives, he shook his head slowly. "I am not a soldier, I have no one's life to risk but my own. Our paths must differ, Captain and you must do what you think is right. But know this, Captian- hatred only creates more hatred." He paused before quoting the book of Matthew. "'Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.'"

Banez looked away, silently trying to take in what Arzen said. Maybe the priest was right, but the knight couldn't love anyone that was willing to murder a sick man and a boy, damn countless souls, and compromise the happiness of many others. Not to mention the way Valmar spoke about God... Banez wasn't about to turn the kingdom to a gang of heathens.

Brenthor allowed a wide smirk to come to his face as he walked into the dungeons. Oh how the mighty have fallen... He made his way past the cells, glancing into each one contemptuously. He stopped in front of Banez's cell, peering in at him. He studied him for a few moments before he spoke. "It looks like you lose." He spoke carefully, making sure that his fangs were hidden from view.

Brenthor... In all of his worrying, Banez had pleasantly forgotten about the ambassador. The knight glared up at Brenthor, only briefly before he pushed himself up to stand and look at the other man eye to eye, with none of that helpless gaze crap. "And why are you outside anyway? It wouldn't surprise me if you made a deal with monsters... You're practically one yourself."

"Practically? Oh no, my dear captain... You wound me, truly, if you believe me to practically be one of those monsters..." His smirk widened before his lips parted in a grin to reveal his fangs. He leaned toward the captain, stopping before he hit the bars of the cell. "I am one."

Banez jumped back as though he had been shocked. But if Brenthor was a vampire... Banez' features darkened with rage as he took only one comfortable step forward, "How long?? You betrayed us, didn't you?! How else could they have known about the passages??"

"Oh no. This was all quite recent. They knew about the tunnels long before I arrived. It was someone else who betrayed you." Brenthor's smile remained on his face. "Looks like you were so distracted by me that you failed to see a rat right under your nose." His grinned began to widen somewhat. "It's surprising, this new found power of mine. I move fast, captain. Fast enough that no one can escape me."

Banez was red with rage at this point. If not Brenthor, then who, because the fat man would certainly have been bragging about it by now. God, he hated Brenthor. None of Arzen's teachings could persuade him to do otherwise. Of course he would sell his soul to the team he saw the most profit in. "So? It's not as though you have to catch anyone when they're already in cells."

"It's not who I can catch," Brenthor said quietly, eyes gleaming. "It's who I caught." He fell silent then, waiting to see if Banez would catch the implication that he wanted him too.

Banez' heart sped up. Who? Lorin? Lysand? Both? He started shaking, but his eyes narrowed further, as he was unwilling to bare his ignorance to Brenthor.

"He screamed your name when I did it," Brenthor continued quietly. "When my fangs entered that slender neck of his... The sweet crimson of his blood rolled over my tongue like wine." He was silent a moment before he continued. "My poor, poor Tobias was just so afraid, as he felt the life leaving him, his eyes growing dim. He begged me for his life. He begged me to leave him in the undead state that I am right now."

"YOU LIAR!" Banez roared, charging into the front of the cell, only to be blocked by the bars, which were probably the only thing keeping him back from acting on the murder that was in his eyes. "YOU MISERABLE LEECH! I'LL KILL YOU!! I'LL KILL YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU'VE DONE TO HIM!"

Brenthor had taken a step back at the sudden charge, which he instantly scolded himself for. There was nothing to fear from this man. "A liar? You call me a liar? What need have I for a lie when the truth is so much more painful?" He took a step towards the cell again. "His screams were my music, his pathetic cries wetting my appetite." His lips parted and his tongue flicked across his fangs. "And you forget yourself, Captain. You won't be killing anyone."
