Despite a few casulties, the first wave of infantry forces made a solid thrust into the human forces. Their shields allowed them to break through the spear wall. Their swords sliced off heads, their maces crushed through armor. A small group vampires armed with crossbows, fired upon the retreating soldiers trying to get away. And Brutus was in head lock with their second in command.
Simmon thought he could strike off his head from behind, but the Colonel was quick enough to move his shield behind his head, blocking the killing blow. He made an about face, charging at the man with the blue eyes, thrusting his longsword at his gut...
Valmar figured it was his time to move. He wanted some bloodshed and so did his men. With the sound of the horn, Valmar and his forces rushed out of the caverns and down the slope. Within minutes, the general was in battle, with his sword and shield in hand. He banshed through the spear line, slicing off the head off a knight. He then slammed his shield against another human before stabbing the chest of another soldier. What would make this day any better if he were to kill the captain of these forces.

Zephyr lunged out of the caverns behind Valmar, her broadsword swaying behind her as she ran, both hands on its hilt. Hair flying behind her, she took the opening behind Valmar and broke through the spear wall without having to deal with her lack of a shield. She broke away from the general and her short form disappeared into the throng of much taller men. Amazingly, she was able to wield her weapon with greater speed than most, though when she got ganged up on, it became a challenge. The bi-colored blade was brandished to one of her sides as she was surrounded, yellow eyes taking in the six that had decided to take her on. And without a shield (she prefered offense over defense) this was going to be rather hard. She eyed them all, narrowing her gaze as she chose which one she wanted first. And with a quick leap, she took two out with a wide slash. From the corner of her eye, she could see the other four coming at her as she turned to face them.

Simon, having the length of his weapon as a buffer for the change, managed to slip to the side as Brutus charged. Another horn? But he didn't have time to check on what that was calling with this monster in front of him. He kicked Brutus forcefully in the side to knock him offbalance onto the ground, at which he would fall back a few feet with his halberd held again at the ready. "Call them off! You have our blood and our grief already!" he yelled.
The scarred soldier that Zephyr had attacked dodged her slash and thrust his sword into her side, while the blonde soldier next to him managed to step to the side and strike her sword off course with a mighty swing of his own. As one of the other four attempted to thrust a spear into her back, Cruz drew his recurve bow, aiming for the girl's head and firing.
Banez' hearing was slowly but surely returning, and he looked back at the second force coming to wedge them. He pierced another vampire soldier through the head and threw him into a couple of other black-clad soldiers. This was impossible; they had to run. "There are too many! Retreat!" he ordered, voice booming over the chaos.

Brutus chuckled at his request. "Clearly, I'm not the one in charge of the shots, now am I?" Underneth the right forearm plate, he had a throwing knife, ready to be thrown. "You haven't suffered enough to feel the true pain you've caused for our race." With the flick of the wrist, he pulled out the blade and threw it at the Simon's throat.
Valmar saw the humans that were ganging up on Zeph. With speed, the general shoved the woman to the side, causing the arrow to snap against his armor. He then yanked the spear out of the soldier's hands, stabbed him in the throat, then threw the spear at the archer named Cruz, gouging him in the eye. He then grabbed the blonde soldier by the throat, and with a simple twist of the hand, broke his neck.

Zephyr hissed as the sword caused pain to shoot through her side. She lifted her eyes to Valmar as he shoved her away, but that only hurt more as the sword was torn out of her. She screeched and swung her broadsword out, stabbing through one man and hitting another in the back she shoved with such force. Fury blossomed in her eyes and the yellow sparked with rage, tinted with pain from the bleeding wound in her side. But now she was pissed, and even more dangerous as a result. She returned to Valmar, standing at his back and forcing herself not to wince as strikes of pain flared in her side and up her body. Now that the initial anger of the attack was over, she knew she'd have to stay close to Valmar so that she would have some defense. The injury in her side was going to be crippling to her speed. She hefted her blade up and swung out again, decapitating a soldier heading for a downed vampire. "They're retreating!" she cried as she heard the call and looked for who had made it.

Simon furrowed his brows, which shot up when the afternoon sun glinted off the throwing knife's blade. The redheaded soldier lunged to the side to avoid the knife and hit the ground on his side, quickly readjusting his grip on the halberd to keep it trained on the vampire. Great...
Cruz' green eyes widened as the vampire in black armor came and massacred the solder at the vampiress' back. When the spear was thrown, he ducked down, and it narrowly passed over his head. The archer had several feet of space between him and the general, so as the vampire charged, he released another arrow for Valmar's head before he turned and ran on Banez' order.
Banez's mount backed up, but he pulled lightly on the reins and kept her in place as he checked who was fleeing past him. Where was Cruz and Simon? The captain scouted out from his vantage point on horseback, unable to see Simon's grounded form, but able to see Cruz retreating from a tall vampire encased on black armor. Almost jamming his heels into his mount, Banez charged back into the thick of it towards the vampire general back. Raising his spear again, he thrust it towards the vampire's head, and his mount continued charging past, prepared to trample over the black-haired vampiress near him.

Despite not hitting the human, it gave Brutus amble to time to recover and continue the fight. He ran up to the red head, did a summersult in the air, and pile-drived the right-hand man in the stomach.
It seem the battle was going in Valmar's direction, as the human forces were retreating. It didn't stop the pitiful attempts of resistance. The very same archer who attempted to kill Zeph, now attempted to kill Valmar. However, his arrow was easily blocked by the general's kiteshield. After preventing headshot, he heard galloping coming towards him, someone was attempting to backstab the general.
Valmar made an about face, croutched and with his shield protecting his body. He saw the Human Captain attempting to joist him from behind. As his spear hit his shield, Valmar drew his wieght foward, attempting to keep balance while slicing his sword at the horse's legs, cutting them off as it ran by. He smirked to see the horse fall down in pain, along with its rider. The Roman then got up to meet his challanger.

Zephyr jumped aside as the horse skidded to a halt on its side, crippled and squirming in pain. She was slowly losing the strength to lift her broadsword but she could still attempt to help Valmar with the human that had been riding the horse. She gave the general a look, then turned her yellow eyes on Banez, their color sparking. Slowly, very slowly, and while keeping an eye on what was going on around her, she started forward, toward Banez, silencing the horse as she passed it by removing its head. Stupid humans, not retreating when they were told to... It was going to be the ruin of all mankind. She smirked and halted, waiting for Valmar to do as he would with the human that had come after them both.

Simon rolled to the side when Brutus jumped into the air. With the vampire now in close range and around the same level as him, the redhead attempted to thrust the tip of his halberd into the other's neck with an enraged yell.
Suddenly the ground was coming up, and Banez flew off his horse when the animal fell and lost its momentum. The captain dropped his spear as he tumbled on the ground, quickly catching his footing. Turning and standing, he drew his arming sword and gripped the strap of his kite shield as he faced the vampire general and his soldier girl. He prayed that his men could at least last until he was in a better position to run. At the very least, Cruz could escape now.

Brutus dodged the thrusting attack of the halberd and grabbed the pole part of the weapon. Using both hands, he lifted the pole-axe up, along with Simon. He then flinged him against a tree, hoping that would of knocked him out.
Valmar eyed the brave captain. He was definatly brave but stupid as well. The general wanted to fight him, and just him alone. He wanted this a 'fair' fight. "Zeph, this is my fight," he stated, "Make sure no one tries to interupt our battle."
He then turned his attention to the human captain, "You certainly are a brave man indeed, but not a great stragetist or warrior though," he mocked as he circled around him like a hawk, ready to strike, "Didn't you realize you were running into the hornet's net?"

Zephyr nodded her head. She'd had her own kills and so she would keep an eye on Valmar. The pain in her side wasn't as bad and the injury was already beginning to heal itself. So she figured it wouldn't be too very hard to watch over this. Her cat's-eye colored eyes scanned the surroundings as she backed away a little. From what she could see, there weren't many of either side left around here, a few stragglers fighting. Very easy, it wouldn't be hard at all to watch over the general and keep interuptions at bay.

Simon flew into the tree, twisting himself in the air with his leverage on his axe to hit it with his back as opposed to his skull. He slid down onto the ground again, then yanked on the halberd's haft to yank the vampire closer. Drawing a dagger, he jumped onto his feet and went into dangerously close range with fire in his eyes to stab Brutus' throat out.
Banez wished that he had the time to mourn his now dying mount, but he couldn't with what looked like the vampire general in front of him, apparently someone he'd have to test his skills against. As the vampire circled him, Banez turned to face him, hating to have to turn his back on the vampiress, even if she was under orders. "..I'm only human, and as God intended," he admitted. Didn't he realize? He had realized there were hornets, but now he realized there was a lot that he hadn't known that he hadn't known. "I didn't know your force numbered this, no less that they were well-armed." So vampires had ranged weaponry, armor, and the means to cut down scores of men.
This was VERY bad....

Brutus was drawn closer to the human, as it seemed the red head was trying to stab him in the throat with a dagger. Using his left hand, the Colonel grabbed the human's dagger hand and twisted it in the other direction. Then using his strength, he slowly pushed the blade towards Simon's throat, whispering "Just give up, let me finish this, it'll be over soon"... (Totally reminds me of this scene www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuxpSSJBwW0)Valmar smiled with delight. The fact he was able to to keep secret the development of his war machine away from the knowledge of the humans and the werecritters just shows how much the edge they have in conquering the kingdom. They don't know about his tactics or weapons that he has. This be good news to share with Seriah. It'll make the march to Cados much simpler than expected. "Well, I guess your pathetic god or your furry friends won't save you or your kingdom this time," he stated before swinging his sword at the Captain's head.

Zephyr just watched as Valmar began his attack. His words made her smile, despite her injury. She was leaning against her broad sword, holding her side with one hand as she watched the general go at Banez. Yet another human that would die at the hands of the vampires. Or so she assumed. Who could fight of Valmar? Not many, if any. She kept her ears keen on all sounds, but her eyes were glued to the beginning one on one fight.

Simon twisted his own body around, standing practically side-to-side with Brutus as he fought to recorrect the dagger as best as he could. "To surrender is to die, and I'm not ready for that. Although you've likely lived well past your date. You can't possibly say that YOU aren't ready." He let go of the dagger then, quickly dropping down to a crouch and sweeping his leg to knock Brutus off his feet. He dove again for his poleaxe, desperate to recover one of his dropped weapons.
Banez grimaced at the sight of Valmar's smile. He needed to get back to the castle and prepare the defenses. Even if he perished here, at least one soldier had to escape and warn everyone in the capital. The vampire moved surprisingly fast considering the bulk of his armor, but Banez swept his blade to force Valmar's sword to the outside, then charged forward to bash the vampire with his kiteshield. "Then I'll save it myself after removing your unholy head!"
Suddenly and without remorse, the clatter of armor signaled Trevor's rapid approach toward Zephyr while she was idle. With a longsword in his hands, the man with curly brown hair roared before he swung the blade towards her pretty little head in an overhead strike, aiming to split it into two.
