There was a good chance, Malcolm decided, that the woman was insane. But then again, it didn’t matter much as long as she didn’t rampage and murder everyone in the entire bar. And she was at least sane enough to pick understandable sacrifice-recipients. “Well,” he said, “I understand why you wouldn’t want to be on the bad side of those deities.”
The compliment was much better received; Malcolm held a firm belief in the ‘flattery will get you everywhere’ ideal. “Well, thank you.”
Briefly, he glanced over to the other tables. By now, the other bartender had rushed off with a quick “Yessir” left in his wake, scurrying over to the shelves of the ‘better’ drinks. Then the lad walked back to the gentlemen’s table, keeping his haste but taking care not to drop either glass. He gave each man his drink and reminded them to ask if they needed anything else before moving right on to the next table, Travis’s, and asking the same question as earlier: “Could I get you two something to drink?”

Fabala's eyes widened a fraction and, lowering her voice, she leaned in closer. "You mean..,the rumor about the Advisor was true? He really almost got assassinated?" Well, that was most definitely a bit frightening.
At Travis' offer, she shook her head and sat back in her chair, her voice returning to normal volume. "No, you don't have to do-" But it was too late; the ranger had already ordered both ciders, and he seemed intent on paying for them. "You are a kind man. Thanks."
When Brenthor spoke once more and Travis grumbled his reply, Fabala's brow furrowed in slight confusion. "I'm guessing you're a little less than friends, then."

"Two ciders, please," ordered Travis.
Travis didn't mind being the guy who picked up the tab. With the exception of a few instances, the woodsman enjoyed being a generous man. It was nice to see that he made a difference in the hearts and minds of people.
However, Brenthor didn't seem to be one of those people. He was so smugged and stubborn, that it seems he depises the woodsman's offer. That, or he has something to do with it; but even so, it seems the ambassador wouldn't trust anyone unless they had cake.
"Trust me, 'little less than friends' is the understatement of the century."

"Tch. Friends with a commoner? Me?" Brenthor snorted. He took a moment to look at her. "I suppose you don't realize just who you're talking to." Especially considering her earlier statement. He looked at his companion, finding the situation amusing. "Why don't you introduce yourself, Tobias?"

Mrf. He could have killed Brenthor for that. His hand tightened on his wine glass for a moment. He raised the glass to his lips and tipped it back, allowing the fruity flavor to slide over his tongue as he turned his gaze to the woman. "Tobias Lysand. Advisor to the king." His eyes narrowed coldly. "I would appreciate if you didn't partake in idle gossip about me."

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure that they get pissed off when you trip on their air," she chuckled, sipping more of the wine. Well, fire rain gods or not, all things considered, she'd LIKE to throw the coffin into a volcano. It'd probably do the world some good. Of course, she also believed that it was more of the journey than the destination, so the world would have to cope with being a little less good for a little while longer. "And you're welcome," she said happily.
That's when the coffin's front banged upward, and Lumi's facade melted away in genuine surprise. Her foot slammed the coffin down again, as she hissed in a hushed tone, "Stop it!" She looked back to Malcom again with a grin, though her brows still showed remnants of worry. "What's your name?"

“Two ciders,” the bartender dutifully repeated before vanishing once again to the bar. He brought the drinks back in record time and repeated that they could ask if they needed anything else, and they could leave payment at the counter or their table. Afterwards, he tried his best to look busy within earshot of the two tables.
Malcolm, meanwhile, snapped away from the distraction when the coffin jumped. As if that weren’t bad enough, the woman leaned down and ordered it to stop. If that wasn’t suspicious, he didn’t know what was.
“...My name is Malcolm,” he replied, still glancing at the coffin out of the corner of his eyes. (Now he wasn’t just imagining something jumping out of it; he was expecting something to jump out.) “And yours? And...his?”

( Cue internal facepalm! )
Fabala's eyes widened even further. "Advisor Lysand? I apologize, I didn't realize..." She bit her lip and let her gaze drift over to Brenthor. "Does that mean..." Oh, she could have slapped herself! "Are you Ambassador Brenthor?"
Hm. He was heavier than she thought he would be.
She took a hasty sip of her cider, trying desperately not to look stupid...even if she was a bit too late for that...and turned back to Travis, a light flush tinting her cheeks.

"Of course not," replied the ranger, "why would anyone want to be friends with a fat deceptive sloth like you is beyond me." Despite Fabala making herself look stupid, it wasn't as bad as one would think. If you actually met them, this scene wouldn't make sense for they hated each other guts...or that was the impression Travis recieved. He faced towards Lysand, "So, I see you're doing fine, Sir Lysand. Tell me, how did Sir Brenthor get you to have a drink with him?"

"Yes. Ambassador Alerick Brenthor." He offered Fabala the smallest of nods. To Travis, he said nothing. Instead, he just fixed him with a frosty glare before looking back to Fabala again. "So tell me... What are the commoners up to lately anyway?"

Lysad raised his drink to his lips, taking a small drink of it. "It is fine, truly." Not that he cared what the common people think of him anyway. When Travis addressed him, he hesitated. How could he possibly explain this, without actually explaining this? "It was my suggestion, actually. I thought it would be good, getting out of the castle for once."

"Well, nice to meet you, Malcom! I'm Lumi." She glanced at the coffin, then back to Malcom, waving her hand. "He's not all that important. Just dead. Some unlucky bastard, y'know?" she said, sipping at the wine. Maybe she should have gotten cider.... Auugh, indecision after making a decision sucked. Not that the wine was bad or anything, but she was thinking about having something sweeter. "Anyway... how'd you get this place? Was it a family business?"

Oh, he’s not important? He’s dead? Dead as in not moving and unable to bump the coffin up? Oh, sure, and it was his dear pet bunny who jostled the lid, that makes sense.
“A pleasure,” Malcolm said, his attention still divided between Lumi and the coffin. He didn’t care how rude it might be, if something jumped out of that coffin, he damn well wanted to be ready for it.
He almost missed Lumi’s question, catching it at the last second. “Family?” He grimaced and shook his head. “No, I hate my family. On that note, please tell me if you ever happen to meet a short brat named Markus.” Buying the Dragon’s Keep, though...that had been a while ago. “I bought the tavern myself, and here I am. Simple as that.”
Again, he let his attention return to the coffin. “So...if he’s dead, what was moving around in there?” he asked, pointing to the box. “Nothing too dangerous, I hope?”

"Nothin' special. Haven't heard much as of late...it's been pretty quiet. Can't get any gossip these days." Fabala said in response to Brenthor's question. "At least, I haven't been able to find nothin' of importance. Being a bard, you tend to hear lots of things from your listeners. They haven't said anythin' that caught my attention."
When Lysand 'accepted' her apology, she felt relief wash over her, if only a small amount. She nodded in his direction, but said nothing.

"Interesting" replied the ranger, "I'm quite glad that you two are able to put aside your differences and have a drink here." Travis knew there was something strange about this meeting. What would force the two to join up here? It didn't really matter much. Maybe the two weren't exactly enemies. Still, he kept a watchful eye on the two.
