New sunlight was beginning to fill the small tavern room, spreading across the floor as morning began. There were various articles of clothing beside the bed in the one corner, out of the new light. Against the wall beside the door, a broadsword sat beside a smaller sword, and there were also two sets of boots. The blankets on the bed were ruffled and messy, covering two sleeping figures, one that was much taller and masculine, the other tiny compared to the first and feminine. The young woman was curled up against the man, her black hair splayed behind her head. Slowly, she blinked opened her bright yellow eyes and looked lazily at the man before she shifted and sat up, holding the blanket against herself to cover what would have been her exposed chest. Zephyr yawned widely, teeth (and fangs) glinting as she did. Her long hair needed to be combed through, she knew, and she needed to get dressed. However, with a rather content sigh, she looked back at Scipio and then, gently, touched his arm. "Wake up, pet," she said, softly, smiling a small smile. "It's morning."

Scipio grumbled in half-sleep, a faint smile touching his lips. Wrapping one arm around the girl he pulled her gently back down alongside him, rolling over onto his side so that she was snuggled against his chest.
"Early morning, you mean," he said, his voice slightly hoarse. Clearing his throat, he leaned up and kissed her on the cheek. "We were up pretty late, if you remember correctly."
Unlike him, Scipio had only had three beers before Zephyr had, as promised, returned. His first sober night in seeming ages was certainly not wasted, though he spent the first hour or so of their time together flicking fearful glances at the door or wall, anticipating some sort of freak accident.

Zephyr smiled lightly when he pulled her back down. Unlike the various other human men she'd taken, Scipio amused her greatly. And he hadn't been drunk when she'd come across him last night in the tavern, keeping her promise. So she assumed that he rather fancied her as well. She blinked her bright eyes, running her slender fingers along his jaw. "Yes, I remember," she said, giggling softly. "And it's not that early. I usually wake up before sunrise. But I'll stay here, if that's what you'd like." She curled up as close as she could get to him, her face right at his, barely distance between them.

His eyes still closed, Scipio smiled, stroking her hair with one hand and already beginning to drift back to sleep. Before five minutes had passed, however, there was a rude knock at his door.
"Oi, open up!" the gruff voice of the tavern keep intruded. "Yeh said yeh'd only need it for the night- I need yeh out of here so I can clean it up for this afternun! 'S a wedding happenin', an' we're booked tonigh' with all the guests." Annoyed, Scipio opened one bleary eye.
"We'll be out by noon," he called back irritably.
"No yeh won'! Yeh'll be out now, I need time to get everyfin fixed up!"
With a groan, Scipio made a rude gesture at the door and untangled himself from Zephyr, rolling out of bed. Rubbing his eyes, pulled on his trousers and stalked to the door.
The keep, a rather burly man with a bushy mustache and bloodshot eyes, looked as if he thought Scipio was coming out to hit him, and had prepared himself so. "We'll be out in fifteen," leaning on the door, his hair tousled and eyes glazed with weariness, Scipio waited until the keep huffed and limped off down the hall, then shut the door and turned back to Zeph.
"Guess we're going to have to find something else to do."

Zephyr was already slightly straightening her purple shirt over her stomach, her own pants on and her belt looped through it. She had pulled a comb from her pocket and was using one hand to comb through her hair, straightening it as she turned to look at Scipio. And she gave him that little smile of hers, the mischeivous one that showed how entertained she was by everything. She leaned her head over when she felt her shirt was flat enough and started working fingers through her hair as well as the comb, yellow eyes watching Scipio's taller form. "Easy enough to find something to do around here," she said, throwing her head back and sending a cascade of onyx down her back, the white braid sitting still beside her face. "What do you like to do? I'm rather amused by how people react when they see me. It's fun to sit and watch." She giggled again, blinking slowly as she tucked her comb back into a pocket. She crossed the room to her boots, slowing and running a small hand over Scipio's stomach as she passed. She winked at him, turning away to put on her boots.

"When they see you?" Scipio inquired, pausing in putting on his own shirt to sneak a glance at her putting on her shoes. "When they discover you're a Vampire you mean?"
And I like to drink, but we've been over that, Scipio thought dryly- he ran his fingers through his dark hair, doing his best to tame it from last night. "It's your town, Zeph, what is there to do here?"

"No, no," Zephyr answered, righting herself after she'd gotten her boots on and situated. "No, I scare people with how dangerous I look. It's fun to see them avoid me. It's like the people in Tiaelde are... aware I'm not normal like them." She smiled at Scipio, watching him try to fix his hair. She tilted her head to one side. "Do you want my comb?" she asked, blinking her bright eyes. But at his comment and question she laughed, throwing her head back. Her town? Pfft, right! Okay, if he wanted to believe that, that was fine. She continued to giggle to herself as she answered him. "Tiaelde has a few things, I suppose," she answered, cheerily. "It's fun just walking. Of course, I always walked alone so, again, I was watching people avoid me. Maybe we'll find something else to do then, hm?"

Scipio continued to mess with his hair, simultaneously tightening his belt with the other hand. "No, it's fine, I- what are you laughing at?" It can't be that bad, he thought, snatching the offered comb and renewing his attack. He took a minute in answering her next inquiry, patting his head rather self consciously and glancing around for a mirror.
"Er...yeah. Walking sounds good. Maybe we'll just run into something." He started for the door, pausing with one hand on its handle as he did a visual sweep to assure he hadn't left anything behind.

Zephyr took back her comb and slung her sword across her back. She also gave a sweep around the room, though she didn't have anything to leave behind. When she felt secured, strap across her chest tightened and ready to move, she smiled up at Scipio and moved his hand out of the way, opening the door. No reason to wait. There was that fat tavernman coming back. Pig... She looked disgusted and it was probably the smell coming off him that had her nose wrinkled. She reached a hand back for Scipio and tugged him along with her, chucking the key to their room at the man as she passed him and giving him a dangerous stare. When they were outside, she looked toward the sky and the sunrise. How nice? It was the color of blood.

Giving the barkeep a rather unkind look as Zephyr tugged him past, Scipio caught him looking at his lady, a mingled expression of curiousity and fear on his features. Before he could say anything to the man, though, Zephyr had tugged him out the door and out into the streets, a crimson sky overhead.
Scipio winced at the sunrise. "This is, most definitely, the earliest I've been up since I can remember," he said grimly. Squeezing Zephyr's hand, he glanced around the square, which was entirely deserted. "So where do you live? Maybe we can drop by your house?"

Zephyr smiled at Scipio and laughed when he asked where she lived. "I doubt you would be very welcome at my home," she said, bright eyes intent on his face. "And I don't think that you'd feel very comfortable there either. So we'll just find somewhere nice to sit and wait until things open. And I'm sorry you didn't get to sleep in, but you'll have to get used to that with me around." She returned the tightness of his hand in hers, then started walking, randomly, down the street. Though the place was practically void of human life outside, her keen ears could pick up the sounds of other early risers, people getting ready to appear for the day. Of course, Scipio's ears wouldn't be able to hear what she did, but she enjoyed feeling like she was alone with him. At least for now.

Scipio heaved a mock over-dramatic sigh. "If you say so," he said. He allowed a lapse of comfortable silence, glancing around at the dark shop windows. Were this any other situation, he would have been feeling mutinous to have been dragged out of bed at such an hour; as it were, the company made the painfully early morning bearable.
After a while, he dared to ask the question he had been mulling over since the night before. "So...uh...how did you get like, you know..." he smiled sheepishly. "I mean, if I can ask...how'd it happen?"

Zephyr's smile faded almost instantly and the brightness of her eyes dulled. She looked down, allowing her black hair to fall over her shoulders and hide her face from Scipio's view. She didn't like talking about this. She didn't like the painful memories of what her human life was like. Slowly, a frown found its way onto her face and she turned her head away from him, continuing to walk as she considered what exactly to say. Being truthful really didn't matter in this situation; what was done was done and there was no changing it now. And she didn't regret it, either. "I was sick, very sick," she murmured, quietly, sounding very serious about the whole thing. "The illness I had while I was a child and a young adult is the reason I'm as short as I am now. My family abandoned me, my mother and father and my three siblings. I knew they would do it eventually; the fact that they stayed so long and everything I heard them muttering outside my door only made me feel worse. They packed up everything outside of my room and left me to die. Without any care from anyone, I got so bad that I was hallucinating and I didn't really comprehend what was happening when he came." She paused, still looking down but taking her hand from Scipio's and brushing her hair back behind an ear, back over her shoulder before crossing her arms. There was no bright spark in her eyes, none of that fiesty, mischievous playfulness that she usually had. "He came and told me he would save me," she continued, her voice getting a little more lively at the thought, though no where near its previous amusement. "He said to me 'I am Vincencio. I will make it all better and you can join me and live forever.' I let him change me so that I wouldn't hurt anymore. I'm fairly certain that my sire pitied me, but he's like my father now. He made sure that I knew what was right and what was wrong. Well, what's right and wrong for a vampire, you know." Finally she turned her head to look up at him, though she still kept her head bowed slightly. The color in her eyes was bright again, but that usual twinkle wasn't there. She looked away and walked with a distance between her and Scipio now, as if avoiding getting close to him, as if second-guessing her choice in wanting him for anything more than food.

Guilt immediately swept over Scipio; untangling herself from him, Zephyr put a bit of distance between them, which Scipio closed and wrapped his arms around her from behind.
"I'm sorry," he murmured, kissing the back of her head. He didn't mean to stir up painful memories. "I just want to know you better, you know?"

Zephyr shook her head but she didn't pry herself from Scipio again. Stuff like that always upset her, which was part of the reason only Vincencio, and now Scipio, knew this about her. And Vincencio only because he had been the one to do it to her, to make her change. She had stopped walking by then and was just staring down the street, arms crossed over her chest. She supposed if he was going to side with her, he ought to know who she was. Of course, she didn't now as much as she initially made him believe. Only little things here and there that she'd picked up from other vampires. "Not your fault," she stated, shaking her head again. "That's just how it is. And they've paid."
