Gentle strumming of a mandolin was heard in the stillness of the cemetery, Fabala sitting on the thick, marble fence that circled it and it's church.
Oh, how she loved winter. It was always so quiet and beautiful, yet...bustling and loud at the same time! Christmas was coming, slowly but surely, and everyone was getting so very excited...but, in a place like this, the silence was almost deafening. The only sounds currently gracing the area were Fabala's voice and her strumming.
"Crisply falling, gentle and sweet,

Almost as if to cleanse the land from sorrows and sins,
As the snow covers us, our tears fall away..."
A black bandanna had been tied around her head, secured in the back by a small knot. She had traded in her short skirt for a much longer one, the style resembling that of a gypsy. It had many ruffles, and countless designs were embroidered into it...
It had been her mother's.
A black shawl had been thrown over her shoulders, made of wool. It reached midway down her arm, brushing against her elbows.
"Crisply falling, gentle and sweet,

Fabala sighed contently, kicking her legs to the slow beat.
Winter...how stunning it was.

He exhaled slowly as he left the castle, his breath condensing into a white cloud of fog. He paused for a brief moment as he wrapped his red mantle, which was lined and trimmed with a black fur, more tightly around himself. Shoulder giving a slight throb as a reaction to the cold, he began to move forward again, to keep his blood moving.
Technically, he should still be in the infirmary, but he needed to do this, and the healers there understood. Guards had hastened to offer themselves as an escort, but he turned them down. He needed to do this himself.
Lysand glided forward silently, almost like a ghost as he neared the church. It had been sixteen years now... Sixteen... His foot froze as he heard a voice coming from the cemetery. Such a lovely voice. As he listened to her words his eyes closed as he forced himself to choke down his emotions. She sang of snow...
That reminded him of his father, and the fate he had fallen to sixteen years ago.

Fabala's eyes, which had been closed for quite some time, finally opened, and met the figure standing a ways away from her.
She almost fell off of the fence.
"Oh, hello, sir! Sorry if I was a bother..." She blurted, sliding off of the structure and landing on the ground with a small thud. "I just got inspired..."
Snow suddenly began to fall then.
Fabala couldn't help but chuckle softly. "And it's beginning to snow." She sang impulsively, playing a few more chords.

Lysand stared at the woman for a few moments. "Why are you here?" Blinking, he looked up as snow began to fall. He was silent, eyes tracking each of the precious white flakes as they floated down from their heavenly perch. "They're making a mistake," he murmured. "They should have stayed where the were."
"I want to see Father!" He glared up at the healers blocking his entrance to the room. "He's dying, isn't he? I need to see him!"
"You cannot. If you entered, there would be a risk that you'd catch it too. Go back to your room, Tobias."
He glared up at the healer before stalking back to his room, sitting in the chair by the window. His father was dying, and there was nothing he could do but watch the snow fall...
Lysand trembled for a moment, but quickly tried to hide the grief from his face by looking intently at the falling flakes.

"I have nowhere else to go." Fabala replied, shrugging. "I just go where the wind takes me, I suppose."
At his comment on how the snow should have 'stayed where it was', her brow knitted together in confusion. "What's so bad about snow?" She asked, taking a step towards Lysand. She still hadn't recognized the man. "It's so free and gentle and kind..." She spun in a quick circle. "It makes me smile."

"There's nothing wrong with the snow," he replied quietly. "But why would the come here? They reside in heaven, yet they leap down to earth? Don't they know that they're making a mistake? That they should stay where they are? To come from heaven to this wretched place." His eyes focused on the ground for a moment, watching as the ground was slowly obscured by a thin sheet of white.

Fabala chewed her bottom lip in thought. "I don't know..." She said after a while, continuing to walk towards Lysand. She had halved the distance between them before deciding to stop. "Maybe...maybe to show us that God's looking out for us? Like...like he's sending little angels to watch over us and make us smile." She held out a hand, which caught a few snowflakes as they drifted through the air. A small smile played on her lips.

Lysand watched her warily as she approached. She hardly looked threatening, but after being attacked twice, there was a slight paranoia about him. "Is He? Is God truly looking out for us? Sometimes I find that hard to believe." Despite her smile, his lips were beginning to downturn into a frown. "This snow..." He looked up. "It cannot bing a smile to me. Not with the ties it has to me."

"Well..." Fabala let her hand drop. "I find it hard to believe sometimes, too. But...you just have to have faith." Another small step. "God said that He does everything for a reason. Shit happens, I know, but you have to believe that there's a reason behind everything and that everything will turn out right somehow."

Lysand crossed his arms, saying quite plainly, "You can't really say that. That everything will be all right in the end. There are people on this earth who will die miserable and alone. And then what? Then maybe they live out their miserable existence, they'll die and go to hell." His lips pressed into a thin line. "You live in a fairy tale if you think that everything will always work out." At her last question, his gaze rose to the sky again, the snow beginning to pick up. He shifted. "I have said too much. It is none of your business what haunts this snow holds for me. The ties it has to my father..." He felt the rush of emotions again; the same emotions he felt when first hearing her song. He had to choke them back, only letting a slight tremble come to his hand.

The snow began to dot Fabala's hair and shoulders, adding to the strange coloring of her locks. "Some people choose to be optimistic." She replied, crossing her arms over her chest in a similar manner. "If you look upon the world with a pesimistic view like that, then of course bad things are going to happen to you. Believe in yourself and believe that God is there, and you will be fine."
When he mentioned his father, Fabala's arms dropped gracelessly.
"What is with people and their daddy problems these days...?" She muttered, feeling her mood instantly darken.

"Sorry I don't live in a fairy tale." Lysand's eyes narrowed at her. "Well I'm sorry that the personal affair that you inquired into offends you." He lifted his chin with a slight huff. "Now if you excuse me, I didn't come here to chat with you. I came here to visit a grave." He moved to walk past her toward the cemetery. All the emotions he had been swallowing were making him just a tad flustered.

Fabala's arm impulsively shot out, holding the man back. Even if she was shorter than him by a few inches, she was more than capable of at least slowing him.
"I'm not offended...merely...empathetic...?" She bit her lip, moving fully in front of the man. "I commented in such a way because I've met quite a few people with similar problems within the last few months, and I myself have experienced said problems. My father is dead." She pointed to the graveyard Lysand had been approaching. "He's over there, too. Under the tree in the corner."

When her arm shot out, Lysand jumped back, a paranoid impulse. His hand had fallen to his rapier, but after a quick moment, he recovered his composure, the startled expression instantly vanishing from his face to be replaced by his usual blank mask. His eyes traveled to the tree in the corner of the graveyard. "I see." He was quiet a moment. "It is not strange for those to have lost a father, for that father lost a father. That father lost, lost his, and so it goes on." He was quiet. "So it is that all will die eventually. I suppose that it hardly matters when it occurred."
