When Banez replied to her argument, she realized her defensive attitude and proceeded to calm herself for a moment. After listening, she realized that it was more of a concern than a challenge. It was unexpected, but welcomed with open arms. Actually, after a little thought, she realized that nobody had really seemed concerned about anything when talking to her since...well...since she could remember. That was most likely just a result of her nomadic lifestyle, though. Traveling was fun. Lonely, but fun. But lonely. But...yeah, it was pretty lonely...
A frown slyly appeared as Avi's expression, but she caught it before it became too noticeable, and straightened up. Banez probably couldn't see it anyways, because her face was hooded. His laugh lightened up her mood, though, and the mist of deep thought quickly faded away as he answered and asked another question.
"Well, I don't know...really. I'd always wanted to be free like my parents when I was a teen, so...I guess I just took after them when I felt I was old enough to leave their protection."
That was true. Of course, it wasn't the whole story, but it was true. Avi never told anyone the whole story of her history, and never would. In fact, she never told anybody her true name. Maybe one of two people, but that's about it. She was very distrusting when it came to strangers, or even when it came to people that held trust in her. It was just the way she was and the way she had been for quite some time, and probably the way she would be until she died.

Banez nodded slowly. So her parents were travelers too, then? It must have been nice to be able to freely travel. The only traveling he and his knight made was to arrive at strategic battle positions, and that didn't have a very wondrous feel to it when you knew that blood was going to be on the ground the next few days.
He glanced back at the tavern door. "Well... it's starting to get later than I'd like. I should get back inside." He was sure Brenthor enjoyed the little reprieve as much as he did, but now they had to cluster back together again into a tangle of grates and insults.

Avi nodded and walked to the door before Banez could reach it.
"I understand, I need a bite to eat, anyways," she said, smiling and turning to the door. She didn't really need a bite to eat, but she did need to show herself to Brenthor so that he knew of her presence before Banez could notice anything. When she grabbed the handle, though, the door seemed to be locked.
"That's strange, the door won't open." Avi started to tug on the door harder and harder until it felt like she was about to break the handle. Brenthor never mentioned anything about locking the door, and taverns didn't usually close until early morning, especially when customers were still there.
Suddenly, she heard a loud noise on the roof and someone jumped down behind her. She quickly turned around and saw another hooded figure reaching for a sword on his waist. What was it about people at night and hoods? Really, you couldn't tell who was good and who was evil and who was just some random person because they all wore hoods. There really needed to be some kind of hood design that helped distinguish bandits and commoners.
A sharp pain came to Avi's stomach, and she could feel a hint of cold steel brush her skin. Then, a thick liquid slowly seeped onto her torso. Looks like the leather armor wasn't as durable as the tailor said it was. Thoughts were nice, but sometimes they were dangerous, and Avi needed to always remain on guard. After a yelp of pain, she quickly grabbed for her dagger, but she seemed to have misplaced it when she showed it to Banez.
"Shit!"
She dodged the assassin's next attempt to strike her, but the cut in her stomach made it much harder to stand back up. Her aches had to be attended to later, though. Assassins weren't part of the deal, so she knew this wasn't just a show. This man was really in for the kill.

Banez had gone into the tavern before it was magically locked.

Avi looked up just as the "assassin" ran off. What was all that about?
Oh well, now wasn't the time to think about that. Banez left and Avi just failed. Again. She needed to stop getting so caught up in the moment of having someone to talk to and she needed to focus on her work. If she went around blabbering about herself to all her targets then she wouldn't ever get anything done.
Actually, she really didn't get too many targets. The only person she really had to blabber to was Brenthor, and he didn't like being blabbered to.
Wow, I really need to find a blabber buddy...
...
Actually, I don't need to. I just need to focus on my targets and I can just blabber to myself when no one's around. That sounds like a plan.
...
A plan to get me put in some kind of dungeon for crazy people.
There was always one other person she could blabber to... No, she'd just have to hold it all in. She'd find a way eventually. She just needed to tend to her wound and talk to Brenthor. Of course, he was busy at the time, but she'd just keep stalking the two until he had to eat again, then maybe she could get him alone.
{End}
