Hurm Brenthor. Alerick couldn't say that though. "I... I don't know, Tobias. I wish I knew, but I just... don't." He met his friend's gaze. What had done it? Was the thought of marrying him so utterly repulsive that she had to end it? Or had his father... He closed his eyes and took a breath, moving a hand to rest it on Tobias' shoulder. "I'm sorry." He would have to confront his father on this... And find a way to save himself from becoming his next target.

Tobias closed his eyes, taking a few breaths, trying to stop his eyes from beginning to mist. "I think I just need to lie down." He separated from Alerick, taking a few steps back. After a moment he turned and entered their room, flopping down on his bed. Maybe he could just sleep this off...

Alerick nodded slowly. "Alright Tobias..." He watched him disappear into the other room before he sat back in a chair, head spinning. He would have to talk to his father right now, before it was too late... He stood up and left without bothering Tobias to tell him he was leaving. It was not long before he was outside his father's chambers. He lifted his hand to knock, startled when he heard his father's voice.
"Do come in, Alerick. I could hear your heavy footsteps from halfway down the hall."
Alerick pressed his lips into a thin line before he entered the room. "Father." He bowed lo him before straightening. "It seems I was mistaken when I thought that you were uninterested in picking on eighteen year old boys. How will you hit him next? Will I be your next victim in your quest to obliterate the boy's sanity? Do I mean so little to you?"
Hurm's eyes narrowed. "Alerick, come here." When his son was in front of him, he grabbed him by the shoulders and looked him in the eye. "I would never kill my own family. Don't you understand, Alerick? I try to love you, but..."
Alerick leaned forward slightly, hanging on his last word. "But...?"
"How can I when you're showing such weakness lately?" He brought his arms around his son, pulling him into him. "You're my own flesh and blood. How could you think I would kill you?"
"What can I do? What can I do to prove to you that I'm strong?" His arms were tight around his father, unsure what else to do to the unfamiliar gesture. Never before had his father hugged him. This show of affection that he longed for... He needed to prove to his father that he was worthy of it!
Hurm smirked when his son could not see his expression. It was a disappointment, really, how easily he could manipulate his son. How pathetic he was... He must take more after his mother. He rubbed his son's back, sneer of derision on his face, but not in his voice. "I'll find you a way, Alerick... I'll find you a way..."
